 Historically health insurance covered mental health care differently than other medical care. Recent laws have begun bringing them into balance.

Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act: A Watershed Moment for the Future of Behavioral Health Care, Uniting the Community with What We Know Now to Transform Our Systems of Care: The Colorado Coalition for Parity works to insure that individuals with substance use and mental health disorders, their families, treatment providers, advocates, and insurance providers have access to the resources that are defined in the final rule of the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act. To educate and raise awareness, the Coalition authored this monograph.

Kennedy Cousins Talk About Addiction: Christopher Kennedy Lawford, in recovery for more than 25 years, talks about his new book, “Recover to Live,” along with his cousin, Former Representative Patrick Kennedy, who discusses his own experiences with addiction. Kennedy hosted a field hearing in Denver on January 10, 2013 on PARITY efforts to equalize behavioral health benefits with other healthcare benefits.
